What's this page all about

Is your Group short of Leaders? Do you want to open a Section that your Group currently lacks? Is your Cub Pack so full that you need to open a second? Is there no Group at all in your locality? If the answer to any of these questions is 'yes' - then read on...

The Scouts Wales development plan for 2007/10, is funded by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action and the Scout Association Development Grants Board and provides funds for the employment of a Local Development Officer (LDO).

Thats me folks. My name is Mark Winson. I have been a Cub and Scout in Derby, completing my Chief Scout Award and spending some time as an Assistant Scout leader, before leaving to work in the RAF. Upon discharge, I took up the post of Scout Leader in Caernarfon, for three years, gaining my wood badge. In 2003-2005 I worked part time for WSC as a development officer, being offered this full time post in 2007. After nearly three yearsof work in Clwyd and Montgomeryshire the project has recruited over 200 new adults into Scouting.

In furtherance of development in Clwyd, this web page will keep you informed of the work being done in your area and enable you to place a bid for the development officer to come and work for you.

Current Development Projects

Development for this summer term was late in starting after the spring projects over-ran due to the ice & snow early in the year. However all have eventually proved successful and with ongoing support welcome additions to the area.

1st GRESFORD This project was to recruit new adults into the existing well attended Beaver Colony. Alison Gillespie the existing BSL is leaving and needed to recruit a new leader team to take over from her. A busy recruitment evening fired the enthusiasm of the locals and parents and four new leaders and four helpers were found. Vetting and training completed the new leaders are now undertaking module 12 re: the balanced programme, which will mean that Alison can retire knowing the section is being well cared for. Welcome to Gary Evans, Laura Millard, Karen O'Toole and Catherine Goss, four of the key new adults.javascript:emoticon(':)')

1st CORWEN (Owain Glydwr) A second visit to this rural town after the creation of the now well established Bvr section, has allowed for the creation of a new Cub Scout Pack. This has been awaited by those Bvr Scouts that are now due to swim up and provides a future for Corwen Scouting. The new BSL Emma Statham is very keen and capable, being supported by mums Tracey and Eleanor. It is hoped that this team can be expanded over the following term.javascript:emoticon('')

2nd SHOTTON (St Ethelwolds) This band new Bvr section has astounded everyone. Early tasters in two of the local schools supported by masses of publicity proved unsuccessful with only two adults and children attending the subsequent open night. Opinion was to shelve the project but with the help of the local church and two more outlying schools, the project was relaunched and now attracts over 20 children each week supported by 4 new leaders and 4 helpers. The new joint BSL leaders, Kirstie and Susan have taken this new section to the next level already and are now providing their own programmes after completing training and vetting. The ABSL's Sian, Kerys have been great in support and are already asking when we will be returning to create a new Cub pack. I can't wait!javascript:emoticon('')

Strategies and initiatives

LATEST APPLICATIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE

Successful applications for assistance starting after the summer holidays going through to Christmas include:

1st WREXHAM June Smith has secured development assistance to boost adult leader and youth numbers in her Cub Pack.

6th PRESTATYN After struggling along as a one man band, Steve Rimmer CSL and Gareth Sandilands GSL have secured development assistance to help them boost their Cub numbers and adult leaders. This is the third attachment I have had to Prestatyn, mainly because there is always a fresh application awaiting attention from this enthusiastic group.

WREXHAM, DENBIGHSHIRE AND LLANGOLLEN DISTRICTS As a new part to my role I am now helping these three districts to compile their own development plans. In due course I will include Flintshire in this. Subsequently, it is the intention of Scoutwales to offer this to those progressive groups that would like to create their own development plan.

HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR ASSISTANCE

If you would like some assistance from the development team to:

1. Create a new section within your group
