1st Esclusham Cub Scouts and Scout Group have visited the North Wales Police Air Support Unit.

The Cubs and Scouts had a great time at the unit where they had a chance to see North Wales Police's brand new high tech Helicopter and base.

Air observers PC Jaggard and PC Roberts showed the Scouts around the Helicopter, where they learned about what the Air Support unit does, including rescuing injured walkers in remote areas of Snowdonia, searching for missing persons and following Police car pursuits from the air.

The Scouts had a chance to see and try out the high tech camera equipment and mapping systems. They also leaned that they needed to practice their map reading skills in Scouts, if they would like to become a Air Observer in the future!

Huw Jones, aged 11, said: ''The visit was really interesting and they told us everything about the helicopter. The best bit was looking at the camera and maps on board.''

The group has a recently opened Scout Troop for boys and girls aged 10 to 14 and are welcoming new members. Huw said: ''We do good things like camping, and you make lots of new friends and do lots of activities. I'm looking forward to doing sailing in the spring for the first time.''
