Recent media coverage

The Clwyd Scouts Media Team meet once every two months to go over recent coverage, plan for the future and do a bit of training. At the last meeting we even recorded footage for Hotliner TV - coming soon!

Here's some of our successes over the last two months...

The top article was a great way to tell the public about flexible volunteering and the role of the Occasional Helper. Just a fluke that we noticed that we'd just passed 1,000 adult members so a bit of research led to the actual volunteer who was the thousandth!

Then a great piece of work by two of the Explorer Scouts that are members of the Media Team - each are also Young Leaders at Groups that recently received grants from AVOW and they got some cracking photos to go with the story. Well done guys!

We also set up a photo to illustrate an upcoming event - Scout Community Week. We did this to help raise awareness about the project and get members of the public to suggest things we could help with.

Some Groups questioned why my contact details were on the piece, and 1st Ruthin even sent their own version in (please don't do that!) - but there's no way we could have included every Group's contact details, and any requests have been directed to the correct locality.

Ruthin Scouts have been sending lots of articles in via the Vale of Clwyd Media Development Manager, Gareth Sandilands. One is above and is about a grant they've received to help them put on loads of top activities to celebrate their centenary.

Unfortunately the newspaper didn't publish the accompanying photo, which shows there is an exception to every rule... mostly we don't recommend comedy cheques, but this one works I think.

Finally a story which slipped through our net - a journalist was invited instead - but which resulted in some great coverage. A really sad story, but a fitting tribute to Viv.

Please continue to send us your stories - and most importantly, keep taking good photos and sending them in.
