Cubs learn about pets


 

Cub scouts from 1st Moss have visited the Pets at Home store in Wrexham to find out about animals as part of their animal carer badge.

 

The cubs handled hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits and bearded dragons. Daniel, aged 8, said, 'My favourite part was when the hamster crawled up William's sleeve!'

 

The visit was free for the cubs and leaders arranged it by phoning the store.

680 scouts take over panto!


 

19 scout groups from Wrexham, Llangollen and Flintshire attended this years Cinderella pantomime at the William Aston Hall Wrexham on Sunday. Over 680 beavers, cubs and scouts brought the house down ensuring a great atmosphere.

Huw Jones a scout at 1st Esclusham said 'It was very funny! Buttons was my favourite character especially when he threw the toilet roll on to the light's. He looked very worried, I don't really think it was meant to happen!'

 

Cub scout Kian Paddock aged 9 from 6th Wrexham and beaver scout Rebbecca Kate Owen aged 7 from 2nd Llay won the best made Christmas Hat prize. Both won a prize and went onto the stage to sing Old Mc Donald had a farm.

 

 

After the Performance the cast, including Buttons played by Matt Dallen, the Barron played by Sid Little from Little and Large, and David Heath from the X-Factor's Eaton Road came out to meet the young Scouts to sign autographs and have photos.

Pete Jones who organised the scouts' visit said, 'We'd like to thank Tim Vincent for making this happen and coming to meet the beavers, cubs and scouts before and after the show. We're looking forwards to seeing everyone again in 2012.'

Scouts award 'Best Takeaway in Coedpoeth' gong!


 

Local explorer scout group, Atlas ESU, has held a fast food survey. The young people based in Coedpoeth visited all the takeaway parlours in the village and sampled their food.

 

After much deliberation and heated debate the scouts reached a decision and declared the Sunshine Takeaway serves the tastiest food in Coedpoeth.

 

Presenting the award is Elliot Jones who said, 'It was a hard decision, but after much tasting the Sunshine Takeaway clinched victory.'

 

Other fast food restaurants will have to work even harder next year for this prestigious award!

Llangollen cubs visit Techniquest


 

1st Llangollen cubs have been active recently. First they visited Techniquest Glyndwr where they explored the exhibits and watched a show on disgusting bodies. Having strong stomachs they then went back to Wrexham Scout HQ for party food.

 

The pack have also been helping the rest of the group raise funds selling bric-a-brac, crafts and food. They made an impressive £400 for group funds.

Flintshire & Vale of Clwyd swimming gala


 

Scouts from across Flintshire and the Vale of Clwyd recently took part in the annual swimming gala, held in Holywell swimming pool. The scouts took part in traditional races, from front crawl to breast stroke, but also enjoyed fun races like the egg and spoon relay race, which isn't the easiest thing to do while swimming.

 

 

Scouts from Gwernymynydd and Mold, Halkyn Mountain, Pen-y-Ffordd, Saltney Ferry, Treffynnon Cyntaf, Trinity Famau, Carmel, Rhuddlan, 2nd Rhyl as well as the overall winners 1st Hawarden all took part in the gala which is one of the many district events held over the year.

 

 

Morgan Wright from Penyffordd Scouts said 'I really enjoyed the gala, the egg and spoon race was fun and we won our race! Hopefully we will win the whole thing next year.'
