Rhydymwyn and River Alyn Volunteeri​ng Opportunit​ies


 

Day volunteering opportunities for groups, students, or corporate team building are available at Rhydymwyn Valley Nature Reserve (please feel free pass this email on to any party you feel may be interested)

 

Breeding bird survey: Thursday 17th May - 10 til 2
Join NEWW at the Rhydymwyn Valley Nature Reserve to survey for breeding birds on the site, while learning how to use BTO surveying techniques. No experience necessary, bring just binoculars if you have any, as well as lunch and wear warm waterproof clothes and sturdy footwear.

 

Himalayan balsam clearance: Weds 30th May - 10 til 2
We need help remove Himalayan Balsam from the banks of the river Alyn. This plant is highly invasive, and can be carried along the length of the river course. No experience necessary, bring waterproofs and wellies if you have any, as well as lunch and wear warm waterproof clothes and sturdy footwear. In the event of bad weather, we can begin on the foundations for building a welsh clawdd. (NB we will be working next to a river)

Other volunteering opportunities with varying fitness requirements are available such as:

 

- Weeding and removing ivy from our field studies centre
- Cutting back bramble from the woodland trail and
- Cutting back ash tree re-growth from some of the paths
- Dry stone step creation at our wetland area
- Handcrafting wooden benches made from a sycamore felled and planed on-site
- Breeding bird survey for the reserve and learning how to use BTO surveying techniques
- Habitat pile management for amphibians and reptiles
- Path repair on our beautiful woodland trail which may include culvert work

 

If you have particular interests, skills or ideas for a volunteering day, we would love to hear from you. We are flexible on times and dates, we just ask you to bring warm and waterproof clothing, and lunch.
