Manager Activity Permit Scheme

Responses from Clwyd Area's recent Area Healthcheck questionnaire that went out to every adult appointment, have made it clear that a priority for many people was providing adventurous activities to young people.

As a result, Area Commissioner David Jones has appointed Mike Dawson as Manager Activity Permit Scheme or MAPS. Mike's main role will be to manage the availability of permit assessments within the Area, supporting activity Assessors and those applying for permits alike.

Mike told us, ''The first job will be to get a register together of who actually has a current permit and for what activity. From the register we would know when permits needed renewing and arrange reassessments accordingly, as well as new courses.

''I am also finding out what neighbouring Areas and Counties have in the way of Assessors in different activities to increase what we can offer in Clwyd.''

If you have a question about Activity Permits, contact Mike on 01978 359499 or email mike AT dawson36.plus.com

Website writers

If there are any members out there who'd like to provide occasional articles for the Clwyd website, then it'd be great to have you on board.

You don't need to have great technical knowledge, if you can find your way to registering on an internet forum and post messages on that, then you can add stuff to this website.

We're after someone either from an active Group , Unit or Network who can tell us what they're up to, or someone who maybe has a District or Area role who has access to a number of Groups or Units.

If anyone's interested, let us know.

Click here for a guide to contributing to the website which explains things.

Stay Safe Online

Think u know is an initiative to give young people facts about how to stay safe online. Lots of young people now have access to the internet and regularly use chat rooms, instant messaging, social networks and online gaming. Most of the time these are safe, but it's essential that kids know of the dangers.

We now have two people in Clwyd who are trained to deliver the Think u know training to Scouts and Explorers. They have been on a one day course which allows them to use the Think u know materials.

It's a good idea for EVERY Scout Troop and Explorer Scout Unit to have the training - if it saves just one young person from falling victim to an abuser then it's worth it.

Please could every Scout Leader and Explorer Scout Leader find time in their programme for one night on this training.

Contact us to arrange a night that we can come down.
