Dates for your diary
Wednesday 16/6/10 Scout Leaders' meeting 7 30pm at Hawarden HQ
We had our first Safeguarding course delivered by Clive Bracewell on Tuesday. This course is now a requirement for all adults before their review is undertaken. This is to ensure that everyone can keep up to date by receiving this training at least every five years - POR Rule 5(d). External courses do not count. The alternative is the NSPCC Keeping Children Safe online training package, which must have been completed since your last appointment review.
The next course is now fully booked up but more dates will be coming out soon. If anyone has any issues from the last course that they would like to discuss, please contact either myself or Clive (tel: 01352 714789).
ALSO COUNTS FOR ON-GOING LEARNING!
NSPCC Keeping Children Safe will shortly be on line. The cost has been reduced to £4 plus VAT. More news about this soon.
St George's Day
Details have now been sent to all GSLs for St George's Day. If you haven't received yours, please let me know. Let's hope for good weather!
In Touch
(POR 7.1 - 7.4 and 9.3, 9.5)
This is the new system to replace Home Contact. GSLs should by now have familiarised themselves with this and will help you through the process. In Touch should be used from now on and must be completely implemented by 1st September 2010.
SAS is coming in the autumn

Flintshire have now gone on line for new appointments. To clarify a few points - there are now two different forms for adults to fill in - the blue AA form for all Leaders and Section Assistants, and the green form for Occasional Helpers. Occasional helpers are those helpers or parents who help out about once a month, e.g. on a parent rota.
Anyone filling in either a blue or green form must also complete a CRB. It is not necessary to have every parent complete a CRB if they are not going to help out or only do it once or twice a year, providing they don't have unsupervised contact with the children. Every CRB for a new adult must be accompanied by one of the application forms, please don't send out a CRB on its own.
More information can be found in the factsheet FS321004 Criminal Record Checks. May Castrey (Appointments Secretary) will be able to advise you if you are unsure on any particular case. Please send all Blue AA forms to me in the first instance, so that I can make arrangements to see the new Leader and sign his/her form.
CRBs : Every adult in Scouting MUST be CRB checked. This includes members of Group Executives, Fellowship, Scout Network and Occasional Helpers. If there is anyone who is not CRB checked in the group this must be done IMMEDIATELY. Also it is now a requirement for disclosures to be repeated every five years.
Getting Started
It is important that new Leaders complete their Getting Started (including Validation) within 5 months. If there is a problem with validation, contact Peter Jones, Local Training Manager (phjdm@btinternet.com).
Are you thinking of opening a new section?
If you are thinking of starting up a new section in your group, you should inform the District Commissioner in the first instance, who will then seek approval from the District Executive.

Since September 2008 the Scout Information Centre has been operating with a reduced number of staff. Unfortunately unforeseen circumstances now mean that the number of Information Centre staff has been further reduced.
As a result, it is no longer possible to offer the same hours of service to the Movement. Following consideration of a number of options, the opening hours of the Scout Information Centre will be changed to 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday from 1 June 2009. It is hoped that this change may be temporary and will be kept under continual review, but it is likely that this arrangement will be in place until November 2009.
Any questions or clarifications should be addressed to info.centre@scout.org.uk in the first instance.
