Census: Wrong information was given out in the beginning, for which I apologise. Numbers should now be coming in - as at JANUARY 1st. The fees are £27.70 - this should be paid in TWO cheques, one for £27.20 per head, and the other for 50p per head, both made payable to Flintshire District Scout Council. Providing everyone pays on time the cheque for 50p per head will be returned to you. Cheques should be sent direct to the District Treasurer, Mrs S A Beaumont, Bryn Haf, Old Chester Road, Holywell, Flintshire, CH8 7RX.
St George's Day
Arrangements are now being finalised for St George's Day. It will hopefully be in Buckley, with a parade and short open air Scouts' Own. Full details will be circulated shortly to GSLs.
Safeguarding
There is now training available for Safeguarding (Child Protection) and there will be two dates to choose from; either 30th March 2010 or 15th April. It is expected that this training will become mandatory in the near future and that renewal of appointments will be dependent on it having been done. Please book in the usual way for either of these courses (email / telephone / text). Places are Limited.
Permits
Dave Jones, SL, Treffynnon Cyntaf, is Nights Away Advisor/Assessor for Flintshire - all applications for NA Permits should go through him. (Email: dwwjones@aol.com ).
So that any other permits may be recognised on your records on Backpack, can you please forward details to me?

Flintshire have now gone on line for new appointments. To clarify a few points - there are now two different forms for adults to fill in - the blue AA form for all Leaders and Section Assistants, and the green form for Occasional Helpers. Occasional helpers are those helpers or parents who help out about once a month, e.g. on a parent rota.
Anyone filling in either a blue or green form must also complete a CRB. It is not necessary to have every parent complete a CRB if they are not going to help out or only do it once or twice a year, providing they don't have unsupervised contact with the children. Every CRB for a new adult must be accompanied by one of the application forms, please don't send out a CRB on its own.
More information can be found in the factsheet FS321004 Criminal Record Checks. May Castrey (Appointments Secretary) will be able to advise you if you are unsure on any particular case. Please send all Blue AA forms to me in the first instance, so that I can make arrangements to see the new Leader and sign his/her form.
CRBs : Every adult in Scouting MUST be CRB checked. This includes members of Group Executives, Fellowship, Scout Network and Occasional Helpers. If there is anyone who is not CRB checked in the group this must be done IMMEDIATELY. Also it is now a requirement for disclosures to be repeated every five years.
Getting Started
It is important that new Leaders complete their Getting Started (including Validation) within 5 months. If there is a problem with validation, contact Peter Jones, Local Training Manager (phjdm@btinternet.com).
Are you thinking of opening a new section?
If you are thinking of starting up a new section in your group, you should inform the District Commissioner in the first instance, who will then seek approval from the District Executive.

Since September 2008 the Scout Information Centre has been operating with a reduced number of staff. Unfortunately unforeseen circumstances now mean that the number of Information Centre staff has been further reduced.
As a result, it is no longer possible to offer the same hours of service to the Movement. Following consideration of a number of options, the opening hours of the Scout Information Centre will be changed to 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday from 1 June 2009. It is hoped that this change may be temporary and will be kept under continual review, but it is likely that this arrangement will be in place until November 2009.
Any questions or clarifications should be addressed to info.centre@scout.org.uk in the first instance.

for a fantastic turn out on St. George's Day and also on the District Camp and JOTT walk. When I looked back on the return part of the parade and saw the numbers of young people, it was really very impressive. Well done everyone.
Thank you also for the St. George's Day evaluation sheets that you are sending back to me. I really welcome the honest and frank comments that you are giving - it is obviously time to make a change to this special day, so keep the comments coming please. Has anyone asked the young people yet what they thought?
