Home Safety 03/03/2010
Tonight we did Home safety teaching the cubs what to do if something happened in their home and how to cope with it.
They were doing things such as what to do if they had a gas or water leak or of there was an electrical failure in the building.
they also were identifying what the common causes of accidents in the home.
How to protect the home from crime.
Know how to make an emergency telephone call, including using mobile telephones, to call the emergency services. Know where the nearest public telephone box is to your house, or where you can make an emergency call should their phone be out of action.
Also make a list of useful emergency numbers.

First Night Back 13/01/10
Tonight on our first night back we didn't really have a very good turn out. I think this was due to the fact that we didn't have cubs the week before because of the weather.
never the less the cubs that did come i think had a good time playing games.

Joint Christmas Party
This week we had a joint party with the Beavers.
The Cubs were well out numbered by the beavers, with their only being 8 of them compared to the beavers 20, but they still all seemed to have fun and make a lot of noise.
As we were having a joint night we all participated in each others opening/ Closing ceremonies.
There was a series of games, which involved a spoon attached to string attached to a spoon and then they 4 teams had to race to get the spoon through one arm then out of the other with all of their team members, then they had a game of pass the parcel, with several different parcels going round at a time, we didn't quite have a good selection of music due to none of the buttons working on the stereo.
Then after all of the games it was time for the food, and some dancing from some of the cubs.

This was the activity that we chose for the cubs for their christmas activity.
The cubs enjoyed one game bowling then had their meal then had their second game, but most of them decided that they wanted to go and play on the simulation games, so it was left to a few people on each team to play the rest of the games.

Science Night
Tonight we did activities that revolved around Science
One group were making compasses with Jake and Pari, this involved a small piece of cork, a sewing needle, a cup of water and a normal compass.
To make a compass they had to get the small piece of cork and the needle and out the needle though the middle of the cork all the way through to the other end, then they had to get the normal compass and see where Magnetic north is, then rub the end of the needle on a magnet then place it into the cup of water, this should then make the end of the magnet point to magnetic north.
Another group were making hot air balloons with crepe paper and a hair dryer, this involved shaping the crepe paper into a balloon and then putting the hair dryer underneath and then letting it float down.
