24 hour party people

K2 Explorer Scouts, from Wrexham, travelled to UK Scouting Headquarters in Gilwell on 12th July for the national activity camp Gilwell 24.

Over 4,000 Explorer Scouts aged 14-18 attended the event. The weekend activity camp is built on an unusual twist - activities run throughout the night, from 9am Saturday to 9am Sunday. Every participant was united with the same aim: to become a true survivor by participating in as many activities as possible and remaining awake for the full 24 hours.

An amazing range of over 80 activities were available over the weekend, including climbing, archery, high ropes, scuba diving, 3G swing, flying trapeze and even kayaking and white water rafting at the Olympic Lee Valley White Water Centre.

Many completed the challenge and were seen counting down the last 10 seconds at the closing ceremony. The camp was enjoyed by everyone and will undoubtedly prove just as successful next July.

Laura Bentley, aged 16, from K2 ESU, said 'The atmosphere was amazing, even in the early hours of the morning you could still feel the buzz from everyone. There were so many activities that you didn't even know where to start.'

'My favourite was the flying trapeze, something that I never thought I'd have the chance to do, and was great fun. The number of new people you meet is unbelievable, and the warm weather made the weekend even more enjoyable.'
